Reception Class

Welcome to the Reception Class Page.

Dear Parents,

Welcome back after the Easter break.

The children have been making excellent progress at school during the last term and we are very proud of them all. We look forward to their final term in Reception Class and hope they enjoy a very happy and successful time before the Summer holidays.  We thought that it might be useful to provide you with some general information about what will be happening over the next few weeks.

Curriculum
You will find attached, an outline of what your child will be learning at school during the coming half term. As you will see, our topics are “Spring” and “Journeys”. We will be exploring in the school garden and looking at the changes in nature happening at this time of year. Later next month we will hopefully be taking the children on a visit to Morrison’s where they can go behind the scenes of a busy supermarket. More details about this nearer the time.

PE
As before, PE will be on Tuesday and Friday mornings each week. As it is an important part of the curriculum, please make sure your child has a full PE kit in school on these days.  As the weather improves, we will hopefully have some of our PE lessons outside, so please make sure that your child has a pair of pumps or trainers in their PE kit at all times.

Sun Safety
Hopefully the weather will continue to improve over the next few months. As the children will be working in the outside learning environment much more during the Summer term, it is really important that we keep them safe in sunny weather. As the weather improves, please send a named sun hat into school each day and also put sun screen on your child before they come to school on sunny days. We will keep spare sun cream in class and we will put this on the children after lunch on really hot days. If you would prefer us not to do this or if your child is allergic to sun cream, please let us know as soon as possible.

Homework
The children are making really good progress with learning letter sounds. We are now teaching them the letter names and well as the sounds. They are also beginning to put sounds together to make simple words, like c..a..t  says cat. Please continue to practise their letters with them a few times a week and also support them with sharing their reading books at home. Their weekly homework will also help support their learning in reading and writing so please help your child find time at the weekend to do the work and bring it back to school the following Monday.
Please see me if you would like any further advice about helping your child with their learning at home.

Baking
As an important part of learning about science and healthy eating, the children take part in weekly baking activities. Thank you for your contributions to help us cover the cost of the ingredients. Please may I remind you that the £2.00 contribution for the Summer term is now due.

Party
Just before the end of the Summer term we are planning a special “Fun Day” for your children. This is be instead of a school trip and will be a special day for the children to enjoy themselves and celebrate their year in Reception Class. More details of this party will be sent to you nearer the time.

Finally, it is very important to us that your child is happy at school so if you have any worries or concerns please make an appointment and come and see us.
