Year Four
Welcome to the Year 4 Class Page.
Year 4 Summer Newsletter
Dear Parents,
Welcome back after the Easter break, isn’t it great to have some sunshine! We have returned to another busy term, and we have some exciting things we’re going to be learning about.
Please continue to support your child in the learning of their times tables facts. The whole class are really quite good at the easier tables 2, 5 and 10, but they must keep practising the 3, 4, and 6 times tables, and if they know those by heart, the 7, 8 and 9s. Also, they really need to know the division facts linked to each times table, for example, 12 divided by 4 is 3, because 3 times 4 is 12.
This term, we will be doing PE every Tuesday and Wednesday, so please make sure your child has the appropriate kit on these days. We are currently developing our balance skills in gymnastics, but we will later be playing striking and fielding games as well as athletics.
We are currently completing our work on solids and liquids in Science, before we move on to studying friction and habitats. We are going to be making pop-up books using stories we have written in Design Technology, and our artwork will be based on the theme of designing a chair. Our Geography study will be an investigation into the local area, the children have already been very excited by finding our school and their own homes on ‘Google Earth’! Our RE topic this term is worship in Judaism, and ICT is control and programming, as well as the Literacy and Maths frameworks, of course.
We are continuing to award Reading Miles to children each time they read to an adult. Please encourage your child to do this, it is so important, and it makes such a difference. Please ask your children about the book they are reading too, they will develop their understanding of books if they have to explain to somebody else.
If you have any issues or concerns, please pop in to see me, either before the start or at the end of the school day.
Yours sincerely,
Mrs H Whitworth
