Year Five

Welcome to the Year 5 Class Page.

Year 5 Newsletter Summer term 2008

Dear Parents/Guardian,

Welcome back after the Easter Holidays. This is the last term before your child enters year 6, their final year before secondary school, so it is really important to consolidate their learning, especially of the times tables, which we have been focusing on throughout the year. Please support your child in learning their tables so that they have rapid recall of all their tables up to 10 x 10.

We will continue to go swimming on Mondays. This term PE will be on Thursday mornings to coincide with the visit by a cricket coach who will be supporting us in developing our bowling and fielding skills. Children will need outdoor PE shoes, shorts and T-shirt.

This term we will be completing the work on Sound in science, as well as looking at Changing States and Gases Around Us. We will be looking at Talking Textiles in art, Buddha and Special People in RE, Henry VIII in History, Rivers in Geography, Cams in DT, Analysing Data in ICT, cricket and athletics in PE, as well as the framework in Literacy and Maths.

This year is the National Year of Reading and this month’s theme is “Read All About It” which asks you to read everything, anywhere and anytime. Please encourage your child to read on a daily basis. Even though you lead very busy lives, please try and find time to read to your child, as children are never too old to be read to!

I hope to see you at the parents’ evening on Monday 14th April. Should you wish to discuss any issues after that date you can arrange to see me before the start or at the end of the school day.

Yours sincerely,

Mrs K Stringer
