Healthy Eating and School Meals
We encourage all children to drink water and have healthy snacks. Infant children receive a free piece of fruit and milk each day. Junior children may bring fruit to eat at playtime or purchase fruit from our daily fruit shop and order milk weekly from the office.
Children receiving free school meals are also entitled to free milk. Sweets and chocolate are not allowed at playtimes or in packed lunches. We also encourage the children to drink fresh water regularly during the day.
School meals are now cooked in our newly built kitchen and at the time of going to print cost £2 per day. Dinner money should be paid before 9.30 am on Monday morning in a named envelope. Only in an emergency may dinner money be paid later in the week. We recently gained 5 stars in a recent food hygiene assessment by Cumbria Food Liaison group.
Four mid-day supervisors who are a vital part of the school community supervise dinner times. Children are expected to show them the same courtesy and manners as they would any other member of the school staff.
There is provision for children to eat packed lunches at school. However we do not allow chocolate or fizzy drinks. Parents are asked to make a half term commitment if they wish their child to bring a packed lunch as the School Meals Service orders food well in advance and adequate notice is required.
Below is a sample menu, we offer a choice of healthy, nutritious, value for money meals, which fully meet the nutritional guidelines set by the government. Special diets and vegetarian options are available.
